Certified Hand Therapy

Maureen Barrett, OTR, CHT is a certified hand therapist and an occupational therapist. The joints, muscles, and tendons of the hand are very complicated and the interactions of these structures are most delicate. Therefore, hand surgeons and orthopaedic hand specialists want only a certified hand therapist to provide hand therapy to their patients. Maureen has been treating hands for close to 25 years and has been a certified hand therapist since 1996. Maureen is able to design and fabricate any custom splint ordered by the treating physician.

Manual Decongestive Therapy for Lymphedema

Lymphedema is the accumulation of fluid in superficial tissues that can cause moderate-to-severe swelling in the arms, legs, groin, face and chest. Lymphedema can be caused by many different factors, but is most commonly caused by surgery or radiation therapy for cancer. Manual decongestive therapy is a gentle, manual treatment technique that improves the activity of the lymph vessels. Manual lymph drainage also reroutes the lymph fluid around the damaged areas into more centrally located lymph vessels that eventually drain into the circulatory system.
